LOCALLY-OWNED BUSINESS CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF SUCCESS

In February of 1981, Mid-State Transmission Service opened its doors to the community. Twenty-five years and several expansions later, the business is flourishing and proud to celebrate a quarter of a century.

Many members of the community have utilized Mid-State’s repair services, and those who have not used the services are likely familiar with their “go for the pros” jingle that can be heard on radio and television. The shop, led by owner Jerry Adams, started from humble beginnings in a renovated gas station on Locust Street in Bloomington. Adams and his former partner worked together at another transmission shop and decided to venture out on their own.

Their business took off and in 1985, 4,800 square feet were added to the building. Growth continued and in 1999, Mid-State moved to its current location – a 10,000 square foot building on Fort Jesse Road in Normal. Adams attributes the success of his business to his employees and his customers.

“Many members of my team have been here 15 years or longer. They’re all certified technicians that do excellent work,” said Adams. “Our customers have also contributed to our success. I often have new customers who say they were sent to us by a family member, friend, or co-worker. That is a very rewarding feeling.”

In 2005, Mid-State began offering a new service to area auto repair shops called Transmissions 2 Go. This service enables shop owners to purchase re-manufactured transmissions from Mid-State Transmission for use in their customers’ vehicles. What people may not know is there is no such thing as a brand new transmission. All replacement transmissions are re-manufactured or used. Adams began this service to offer convenience to area shops.

“The other alternative is to purchase re-manufactured transmissions from one of two large distributors,” said Adams. “Delivery can often take several days.”
